Tom Thompson was murdered by the State of California on
July 14th, 1998. Despite overwhelming evidence of Tom's
innocence, the zeal of the prosecutor to win at all
costs prevailed.

This site is dedicated to exposing the truth about Tom's trial and unjust
death. It is also a forum for those who love Tom to share stories, photos,

The Anatomy of an Execution: Fairness vs. " Process"

Text of the 30th annual James Madison Lecture on Constitutional Law, delivered at
New York University School of Law on October 20, 1998. In this lecture, Judge
Stephen Reinhardt (United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit) tells the
story of the case of Tom Thompson, a man without a prior criminal record, who
was executed, despite substantial doubt about his guilt. In Judge Reinhardt's
opinion, the Supreme Court's philosophy of elevating procedural rules over
substantive justice cost Tom his life
